Warren Buffet-Oracle of Ohama

Warren Buffet(79 Years Old) was born in Nebraska, Omaha USA on the 30th of August in 1930.. He is considered one of the most successful investors of all time and has picked up the nickname of the "Oracle of Omaha". Or "Sage of Omaha

He is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Berkshire Hathaway Inc.(a Holding Company of See's Candy Shops, Inc.),since 1970. He is also a director of The Washington Post Company and until February 2006, he was also a director of The Coca-Cola Company.

Warren Edward Buffett is an American investor, businessman, and philanthropist. Buffett is also a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 85 percent of his fortune to the Gates Foundation. He also serves as a member of the board of trustees at Grinnell College. Warren Buffett currently is third on the list of the world's richest people.

Buffett was born to Leila and Howard Buffett and was the second of three children, he being the only boy. Buffett's father, Howard was a stockbroker and also became a member of congress. Warren Buffett showed early signs of being entrepreneurial through being involved in various business dealings as a child, including purchasing bottles of cola cheaply and selling them for a profit. He also made his first investment in the stock market when he was just 11 years old.

Buffett began studying at the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, but transferred to the University of Nebraska where he graduated. He then went on to the Columbia University to do a Masters in economics. This was where he met the influential value investor Benjamin Graham.

The young investor was very influenced by Benjamin Graham and went to work for him in his company "Graham-Newman". It was here that Warren Buffett developed many of his stock market investing skills that have now become legendary. Graham developed a method where investors could work out the intrinsic value of a company and make intelligent investing decisions by comparing the stock price to the intrinsic value.

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Berkshire Hathaway
After Graham's retirement, Buffett returned to Omaha and began a limited investing fund partnership with a group of friends, family and associates. The "Buffett Partnerships Ltd" fund racked up amazing returns for its investors over a ten year period, with returns 10 times higher than the Dow Jones Industrial average for the same time. Buffett liquidated the fund and took control of the textile company Berkshire Hathaway.

It was a difficult time for the textile industry and Buffett eventually wound up Berkshire Hathaway's textile activities, but kept the name for Buffett's portfolio of companies and investments. The insurance industry was the first major area of success that Berkshire Hathaway had, with the funds used to acquire carefully selected investments each year. Major undervalued companies that Buffett took advantage of included "American Express", "Coca-Cola" "The Washington Post" and "Gillette". Berkshire Hathaway owns large holdings of each of the above major brand companies (more than 5% each).

They chose not to divorce and remained good friends and business associates. Buffett's late wife was set to inherit much of his fortune upon his death.

At age 13, Buffett filed his first income tax return, deducting his bicycle as a work expense for $35.

Buffett married Susan Thompson in 1952. They had three children, Susie, Howard, and Peter. The couple began living separately in 1977, though they remained married until her death in July 2004. His daughter Susie lives in Omaha and does charitable work through the Susan A. Buffett Foundation and is a national board member of Girls, Inc.

On his 76th birthday Buffett married his longtime companion, Astrid Menks, who had lived with him since his wife's departure. Interestingly, it was Susan Buffett who arranged for the two to meet before she left Omaha to pursue her singing career. All three were close, and holiday cards to friends were signed "Warren, Susie and Astrid" (as per Roger Lowenstein's book, Buffett: The Making of an American Capitalist). Susan Buffett briefly discussed this relationship in an interview on the Charlie Rose Show shortly before her death, in a rare glimpse into Buffett's personal life.

Buffett is an avid player of the card game bridge. He has said that he spends 12 hours a week playing bridge. He often plays with Bill Gates and Paul Allen.

Buffett's favorite place to eat is Gorat's Steak House in Omaha, where he favors the T-bone steak (cooked rare), a double order of hash browns, and Cherry Coke. According to U.S. News and World Report, he drinks about five Cherry Cokes a day. In 1956, at age 25, Buffett's personal savings were over $140,000.

In December 2006 it was reported that Mr. Buffett did not carry a cell phone, did not have a computer at his desk, and drover his own car. However, in May 2007 Richard Santulli, CEO and Chairman of NetJets, stated on the Nightly Business Report that Mr. Buffett now uses a cell phone, however he still does not use email.

Buffett's DNA report revealed that he is not related to the singer Jimmy Buffett and that his paternal ancestors hail from northern Scandinavia, while his mother's side most likely has roots in Iberia or Estonia.

In 2006, he announced a plan to give away his fortune to charity, with 83% of it going to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The donation will amount to approximately $30 billion, at the time of the announcement enough to more than double the size of the foundation.
